We are pleased to share that WPMA violin student, Kira Doppel (13), won 2nd place in Fiddle Slow Airs and 3rd place in Fiddle in the age group under 15 in recent competition – the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil, held in St. Louis, Missouri from May 11-13. Musicians who place first or second in the Midwest competitions qualify to compete in Ireland at the All-Ireland Fleadh. This will be second year for Kira to compete in Ireland as she also placed 2nd in Slow Airs in 2017 in age group under 12. The All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil / Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann will be in Drogheda, Co. Louth from August 12 – 19, 2018. Kira is a violin student of Patrick Ryan at WPMA. Congratulations, Kira !
The Midwest Fleadh Cheoil (pronounced ‘flah’) is a the main regional traditional Irish music competition put on annually by the international Irish music organization called Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Comhaltas a non-profit cultural movement, established on four continents with in excess of 400 branches worldwide involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music since the middle of the last century (1951 to be precise). Their efforts continue with increasing zeal as the movement launches itself into the 21st century.
