2021 Atlanta Festival Academy Chamber Music Camp

Atlanta Festival Academy is excited to announce our 2021 Chamber Music Camp led by the Vega String Quartet! Below are the details:

  • Dates: July 19 to July 31 (off on the weekend of July 24-25)
  • Time: 9am to 4pm
  • Daily activities will take place at the Johns Creek United Methodist Church in North Fulton County
  • Finale concert on Saturday, July 31 featuring the first prize winner of the 2016 Menuhin Competition, Yesong Sophie Lee, as featured soloist performing Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the participants
  • Enrollment space for 50 student musicians only
  • Open to Fall 2021 5th to 12th graders
  • Instruments: violin, viola, cello
  • Tuition is $1390 (a limited number of scholarships are available)
  • Existing ensembles are welcome
  • Lunch not included for health and safety reasons

Participants will receive:

  • Chamber music coachings with the Vega String Quartet and additional faculty
  • Private lessons
  • Master classes with world-renowned musicians including:
    • Nicholas Kitchen, Artistic Director at the Heifetz International Music Institute, New England Conservatory instructor, and First Violinist of the Borromeo String Quartet
    • Sara Sant’Ambrogio, Winner at the International Tchaikovsky Violoncello Competition in Moscow, Russia, and Cellist with the Eroica Trio
    • David Coucheron, Concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
    • Jay Liu, Associate Principal Viola of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and Viola Professor of San Francisco Conservatory of Music
  • Performances at premier concert venue in Atlanta

Application Details:

  • Application deadline is April 15, 2021
  • $35 non-refundable application fee due with application submission
  • Audition videos to be uploaded as unlisted videos on YouTube (video requirements will be posted on the AFA website)
  • Notification of acceptance will occur by May 15, 2021

Finally, for Covid-19 safety precautions, all students and faculty will have to provide proof of either a negative test on Mondays July 19 and 26 OR proof that they have been fully vaccinated.
