Violist Clark Carruth’s enthusiasm for chamber music has shaped his musical career. From 2008 to 2016 he performed with the Chicago-based chamber group Fifth House Ensemble. While with Fifth House, Clark played dozens of concerts each year, with venue highlights including Ravinia Festival’s Bennett Gordon Hall, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Mix @ The Max chamber series, New England Conservatory of Music, Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, Yale University’s School of Music, and the University of Texas’s Butler School of Music.
Recording credits include Fifth House Ensemble’s Excelsior album, produced by multi-Grammy Award winner Judith Sherman and released on Cedille Records, and Nedudim, a collaborative album between Fifth House Ensemble and Baladino, produced by multi-Grammy Award winner Steve Rodby and also released on Cedille Records. Clark’s live broadcast credits include twelve performances on Chicago’s 98.7 WFMT and three appearances on Chicago’s WGN-TV Channel 9.

In addition to his many performance activities, Clark has coached chamber music and led workshops for emerging professional musicians at institutions such as Yale University, Northwestern University, DePauw University, and Oklahoma State University. He served in similar capacities as ensemble coach, workshop leader, and private viola instructor for five years at Fifth House Ensemble’s intensive two-week summer program, fresh inc festival. From 2013 to 2016 Clark taught applied viola lessons at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
From 2003 to 2009 Clark performed with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, the New Philharmonic and the DuPage Opera Theatre. He is a former member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and South Bend Symphony, the National Repertory Orchestra, the National Orchestra Institute, and competed at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2001. A graduate of the University of Georgia (BM) and Northwestern University (MM), Clark’s primary instructors were Mark Cedel, Li-Kuo Chang, and Roland Vamos.
