Ms. Hyun Jo is a highly accomplished piano instructor, accompanist, and music therapist with over 20 years of teaching experience. Her passion for the piano began at the age of four, and since then, music has been the heart of her journey. She believes in the transformative power of music education to inspire, heal, and enrich lives.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from Seokyeong University in Seoul, South Korea, where she built a strong foundation in classical piano. Driven by a deep interest in the connection between music and human expression, she pursued a Master of Arts in Music Therapy at Sookmyung Women’s University, broadening her expertise to include various musical styles, particularly improvisation.
After moving to the United States in 2009, Ms. Jo further specialized in music therapy, completing the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy certification at New York University (NYU) and later earning a post-master’s degree in Music Therapy from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Her career seamlessly integrates performance, pedagogy, and therapeutic applications, offering students a well-rounded and engaging approach to piano education.
As an educator, Ms. Jo works with students of all ages and skill levels, emphasizing technical excellence, expressive interpretation, and creative exploration through improvisation and composition. Many of her students have gone on to compose their own music, reflecting the success of her dynamic and personalized teaching approach.
Currently, Ms. Jo teaches virtual piano improvisation courses at Sookmyung Women’s University and Methodist Theological University in South Korea while continuing to provide private piano instruction. With her deep musical insight, extensive experience, and passion for teaching, she is dedicated to helping students discover and develop their unique musical voices.
