Lyu Lian started playing the violin at the age of five. In 2013, she joined the East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai, China, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in violin performance. She received her second Master’s degree in violin performance in 2019 from the University of North Dakota (UND), under the tutelage of Dr. Alejandro Drago. During her studies, she’s had the privilege to study with Adam Kostecki, the violin professor at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in Germany. She also had the privilege of studying chamber music with Stefan Koncz, a cellist with the Berlin Philharmonic. She is currently pursuing a doctorate degree (DMA) in violin performance from the University of Georgia under the tutelage of Professor Levon Ambartsumian and Shakhida Azimkhodjaeva.

As a violinist, Lyu was the concertmaster for several years in the university’s symphony orchestras and was a section member of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra for two years. In 2016, Lyu won the ECNU concerto competition. She was also the first violin of the UND String Quartet. She is currently principal of the second violin section in the ARCO Chamber Orchestra and frequently performs with Augusta Symphony Orchestra.

As a violin teacher, Ms. Lian started teaching in 2016. She is currently a member of SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas) while pursuing a pedagogy minor along side her DMA with Professor Kristin Jutras. Ms. Lian is passionate about teaching and has students of all ages. From helping her students gain a strong technical foundation and proficiency on the violin with the Suzuki method, her students have found success in their auditions and competitions. While teaching at the Common Music School (CMS), founded by UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, her student won the second chair (first violin) of UGA’s University Philharmonia.
