Zachary Helms is a Gwinnett County native currently completing his studies at the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music with the acclaimed cello professor Dr. David Starkweather. Additionally, as part of recent summer studies in Northern Italy, Mr. Helms had the opportunity to work with Mr. Massimo Macri, principal cellist of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra.

During his time at UGA, Mr. Helms has performed with the UGA Symphony and Opera orchestras under the baton of maestro Hilary Griffiths, and has also been a member of the esteemed ARCO Chamber Orchestra under Armenian director Levon Ambartsumian.

Mr. Helms was part of the faculty of the 2023 Atlanta Festival Academy program, serving as a chamber music coach, private instructor, and sectional coach. As principal cellist of the Atlanta Festival Orchestra, he performed the “Spring” and “Summer” concertos from both Vivaldi and Piazzolla’s “Four Seasons” alongside soloist Nancy Zhou. His recent chamber music performances have included Beethoven’s “Harp” string quartet, Brahms’ viola quintet in G major, and Dvořák’s “American” string quartet.

Mr. Helms takes pride in his musical mentorship and is excited to work with his students to help their musical and artistic growth.
