Music Theory and Musicianship classes are available for all levels. Classes will teach essential musicianship skills such as ear training, solfege, and harmonic analysis. Students who learn these skills in class will save valuable lesson time, so their private instructor can focus on technique and learning new music.
Listening and writing skills will be developed, but listening skills are at the forefront of the curriculum. Classes are beneficial to anyone studying an instrument, including those who are preparing for exams (such as ABRSM, RCM or AP exams), are preparing for auditions, or are interested in composition.
Music theory lessons are an essential complement to instrumental studies, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the music they play. Through these lessons, students learn to read and interpret musical notation, understand key signatures, rhythms, scales, and chords, and recognize patterns within compositions. This knowledge enhances their ability to anticipate musical phrasing, play with better intonation, and interpret pieces more expressively. By linking theory concepts to their instrument, students gain practical skills such as improvising, transposing, and harmonizing, making their overall musicianship more versatile and confident.
WPMA raises the bar of music education, with excellent commitment and mission to help students to achieve their higher creative potential.
